‍

1. Fits – Outfit Planner &Β Closet

‍

‍

Fits is a pretty new app on the market and has just launched in 2023 with the goal to be the ultimate styling assistant. The moment you first open the app you'll see how much care is put into the details with a beautiful interface and really easy to use features. The motto of the app is: Less is better. Or rather: Let's get the essentials right. There's an innovative outfit maker which lets you dress a virtual mannequin and swipe through your closet to discover new looks. You can create your own tags with custom colors and emojis. And you have a clean planner to get an overview of what outfits to wear each week.

2. Acloset

‍

‍

Acloset is a popular closet app and used to be the go-to destination for many of us. The app has a lot of functionality: From a weather forecast at your location to multiple closets that you can manage separately. It's seriously a great app, however at the start of this year, they've introduced a pretty nasty limit of 100 clothes for free accounts. Since almost everyone owns a hundred items, that means you cannot really use the app for free beyond just getting started the first few sessions.

‍

‍

3. SimpleCloset

‍

‍

Next up is SimpleCloset, another minimal closet app that focuses a lot on organization and customization. With SimpleCloset you can customize which features to show, you can reorder almost everything. It's pretty impressive if you love to have full control over every aspect. The big downside with this app is that the background removal of your clothes isn't done automatically for you, you have to do it for each item which is more time-consuming than it should be. Also their free plan only includes 30 items so it's not really viable to use for free and you have to upgrade to the paid plan eventually.

‍

ℹ️ Quick facts:

  • Download here πŸ“²
  • Price: Free up to 30 items with paid membership $1.49 / month
  • Platform: 🍏 iOS
  • From: πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China

  • Affordable Pro pricing
  • Simple interface and easy to use

‍

πŸ‘Ž Cons:

  • Not really a viable free option because you hit the 30 item limit very soon and need to upgrade
  • Only available in 2 languages
  • No automatic background removal
  • NoΒ AI detection of clothes leading to more effort when adding your clothes
  • Only available on iOS

‍

4. Whering

‍

‍

Whering has been featured in the Dragon's Den (UK's version of Shark Tank) and is one of the most well known closet apps on the market. It has since undergone quite some changes in how the app looks and works. It offers a wide array of features across digitizing your closet, planning outfits ahead and even engaging with a community. The standout feature of Whering is the newly launched public community allowing you to share your wardrobe with others. The flip side of Whering is that their app just isn't that pleasant to use, it feels clunky or dated at times and if you are used to smooth Apple apps, this is sort of a setback in user experience.

‍

ℹ️ Quick facts:

  • Download here πŸ“²
  • Price: Free
  • Platform: 🍏 iOS & πŸ€– Android
  • From: πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ United Kingdom
  • Available languages: English

‍

πŸ‘ Pros:

  • Completely free to use without any paid plans
  • Library of community pieces to add to your wardrobe
  • Social community: Let your friends style you

‍

πŸ‘Ž Cons:

  • A bit clunky to use and a very neon color palette
  • No weather information
  • At times inaccurate background removal
  • Only available in English language

‍

5. Indyx

‍

‍

This app looks promising and is worth to keep an eye out for the future development. There are still some important features missing like wardrobe stats but overall you get the basic functionality in a nice looking app. Their unique approach is to offer a white glove service to digitize your closet for you and to have a personal stylist create outfits for you. So it's targeting a more premium sector. Unfortunately, the app seems still in it's early stages with some important features missing.

‍

ℹ️ Quick facts:

  • Download here πŸ“²
  • Price: Free with optional paid styling services starting at $25 / month
  • Platform: 🍏 iOS &Β πŸ€– Android
  • From: πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ United States
  • Available languages: English

‍

πŸ‘ Pros:

  • High-quality background removal
  • Offers personal stylists to assist you

‍

πŸ‘Ž Cons:

  • Time-consuming process to add items one by one
  • No easy way to quickly try out new outfits
  • No wardrobe stats

‍

6. Smart Closet

‍

‍

Smart Closet is another classic app that has been around for a while. It doesn't have any free plan but if you're fine to miss out on the cloud backup, you just have a one-time fee which is nice. Smart Closet features all the basic wardrobe organization, a clip from web tool and an outfit planner. It is a bit dated however and it looks like the app developers don't actively maintain the app so don't expect any new features or updates to come.

‍

ℹ️ Quick facts:

  • Download here πŸ“²
  • Price: $3.99 one time + $0.99 monthly for backup of clothes
  • Platform: 🍏 iOS &Β πŸ€– Android
  • From: πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ United States
  • Available languages: English

‍

πŸ‘ Pros:

  • Easy clipping images from websites
  • Convenient wish list feature

‍

πŸ‘Ž Cons:

  • No free option to get started
  • Seems to not get new features anymore

‍

7. GetWardrobe

‍

‍

Are you obsessed with data and styling stats? Then GetWardrobe might be the right app for you. It features plenty of charts and insights as to what kind of clothes you own and wear. It's really nice for data-driven people but if you care for an aesthetic closet app that is pleasant to use and focuses on outfit making rather than stats, GetWardrobe is not the right app for you. With the technical look and feel of the app, I cannot really recommend the app to the majority of people.

‍

ℹ️ Quick facts:

  • Download here πŸ“²
  • Price: Free with paid plan starting at $2.90Β / month
  • Platform: 🍏 iOS &Β πŸ€– Android
  • Available languages: in 41 languages, including English, Spanish, Russian, French and more

‍

πŸ‘ Pros:

  • Lots of usage stats and analytics of your wardrobe
  • A community to browse other peoples outfits
  • Available on iOS and Android and in many languages

‍

πŸ‘Ž Cons:

  • Crowded with features that make the app harder to use
  • Doesn't really look nice, getting a good overview of clothes can be tricky

‍

8. Combyne

‍

‍

Combyne set out to be the next Polyvore but on your phone. It's technically not really a wardrobe app. It lacks some organization and planning features as it focuses entirely on the outfit making process. The outfit collages are great however and you can access a large library of community clothes making it a really fun and easy to start process. You can also contribute in styling challenges.

‍

ℹ️ Quick facts:

  • Download here πŸ“²
  • Price: Free with paid plan starting at $2.99Β / month
  • Platform: 🍏 iOS &Β πŸ€– Android
  • From: πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ Germany
  • Available languages: English, German, Spanish

‍

πŸ‘ Pros:

  • Large public library for clothes
  • Focuses on outfit making with a nice canvas editor
  • Fun styling challenges to participate in

‍

πŸ‘Ž Cons:

  • No planning, tracking or organization features
  • Lacks weather info, usage stats and more compared to the other apps
  • Mostly good for making outfit collages, not for anything else

‍

Honorable mentions

Two outfit planner apps used to be very popular but are not on this list:Β Pureple and Stylebook. Here's why: Pureple is offering a free app but they have added a lot of ads to their app, making it almost impossible to use without any interruptions of full-screen ads. We cannot recommend it for that reason. Stylebook was one of the first wardrobe apps offering a one-time payment to unlock all features and has become popular over the early years of mobile apps. However the app doesn't seem to be actively maintained, with the last major updates going back 3 to 5 years in the past. Since digitizing your closet means investing time, we cannot recommend using outdated apps that at some point in the future might stop working for new iOS or iPhone versions.
